March 1939. Europe is on the brink of war and a meeting has been called: the 29th Conclave of the Vampires. The fledgling House of New England had travelled across the Atlantic for the first time to the assembly in London.
But Count Dracula does not say all he knows. And what he conceals could spell the doom of all: mortal and vampire.
Summer 2019. A new vampire is wreaking havoc across Southern England. Uncontrolled, unrelenting and merciless, they must be persuaded to stop. Or forced to. As the other vampires search for them, though, mortal humans are beginning to have their attention drawn and some are hunting their hunter. Vampires cannot be shot or stabbed but they can burn.
The vampires are at war. The young houses and all of the mortal world are at risk and the only hope is hiding in an abandoned tunnel under London. But what can a handful of inexperienced vampires do against the might of their ancient enemies?
The war of the vampires is over. House Pan is secure in their new home, House New England have returned home, but the undead are restless. And very bored.
Three vampires decide to go back to school. But can vampires ever re-assimilate? Can they stay hidden while studying? Will the temptation to succumb to their nature prove too strong? Can mortals and immortals be friends, colleagues and even intimate? And is anyone ever safe?
‘Who are you, again?’
‘Mercy Brown, Origin of House New England.’
The blond stepped forwards. ‘I am the Countess Dolengen. These are Lenore,’ she motioned to the darker one Mercy had seen previously, ‘and Isabella.’ The lighter brown-haired woman, her eyes redder than her companions’, gave Mercy a mocking curtsey.
‘De oldest thralls of Dracula,’ said Jumbie. ‘Powerful vampires and de reason that House Dracula has such a bad tale behind it.’ All three hissed at her angrily but Jumbie grinned, enjoying her game. ‘These three, dey pounce on any passing mortal, mate until they are sated and then drain him.’
The three hissed again, Lenore stepped forwards baring her fangs. Mercy bared her own. Jumbie raised her hands to conjure. A cloud of dust raised from the floor and Dracula himself took form. The Sisters retreated, hiding their fangs and bowing their heads.
‘Count Dracula.’ Mercy hid her fangs again. ‘Thank you for your kind hospitality. Jumbie and I were making use of the space available.’
‘The manor is at your disposal for as long as you wish, Miss Brown,’ Dracula replied courteously. ‘Dolengen, Lenore, Isabella, I hope you were making the Origins of Houses Soucouyant and New England welcome in our home.’
The latter gave a sibilant laugh but the Countess Dolengen silenced her with a glare. ‘As you wish, my Count. We exist to serve you.’
‘Away then.’
All three faded into dust and vanished.

It was this tumblr post that first inspired me to combine a war story that I'd toyed with and a foray into supernatural.
I reread Bram Stoker's 'Dracula' and researched worldwide vampire lore, creating 7 vampiric Houses: Dracula, Nosferatu (a darker take on Dracula), Chihuateteo (Mexican/Aztec mythology), Soucouyant (Caribbean vodou traditions), Impundulu (South/West African legends), Aswang (South-East Asian) and New England (based around the synonymous vampire panic in the late 19th Century). Each House had their own characteristics and traditions, their own secrets and motivations. I named the book 'V1', a word play on the World War Two flying bombs and published it.
However, Kate, my wife, suggested it needed some reworking, I withdrew the book and we got to work. The result is the first book in the series: 'Mortality'.
Because I'm incapable (apparently) of writing stand-alone books, I began work on 'Immortality', bringing the vampires into the 21st Century. We now have 'Bloodlust' and 'Life' to conclude the series.
All 4 books are now available on Kobo and Kindle e-readers and in paperback.
